Dear caring friends,
Thank you for all blessings for these past months.
After 6 months of recovering period, Adelyn had achieved very big improvement on her right eye. She is able to see big object like building and cars, as far as within 15 - 20 metres.
She is now putting on a spectacles with some degrees to help her to get a clearer picture of her surrounding. According to Adelyn, although her vision on the object is not very sharp, but is much more better than before.
I estimated she should be gaining her vision about at least 20% from her past.
Adelyn will be going for her next operation on her left eye on 29th May 2013, Wednesday @ Mount Elizabeth Novena @ 5pm.
Again, I am here to seek all caring friends here to pray together with me
Adeyln, her sisters and me are looking forward for this exciting day to arrive. We hope everyone here, including all caring friends around the world, could pray together with us for this exciting moment that we had been looking forward to. Kindly forward this message to your friends around.
Once again, thank you for all supports and blessings.
Warmest regards,
Mary & Children

18 April Next operation update
Dear all caring friends,
To keep everyone update, Adelyn most probably will be going for the left eye operation in early June this year.
We had been thru so far to await for the next operation.
The first operation on the right eye was indeed a successful one. Adelyn is able to see her surrounding as far as about 5 metres away. According to her, although the image is not very clear, but is much more better than in those days.
I hereby hope everyone here could once again pray for Adelyn for her next coming operation on the left eye.
I will update again when the time come nearer.
All the best to all of you.
Warmest regards,
Mary & children

19th March update on Today online
Singapore 19th March 2013
Cornea surgery by S’porean specialist a groundbreaking success

reconstruction operation. Photo: Parkway Pantai Group
SINGAPORE — A Singapore eye specialist has performed
groundbreaking surgery to restore vision in two children with cornea diseases.
It was the first time the operation — which has better long-term success than
conventional cornea transplants — had been done in South-east Asia.
The children, 23-month-old Hoang Binh Minh and
11-year-old Adelyn Koh — the former developed blindness in his right eye, while
the latter was born blind — had their sight successfully restored last November
through a highly specialised and complex eye reconstruction operation known as
the Paediatric Boston Keratoprosthesis (KPro) surgery.
The operations were performed by Associate Professor
Leonard Ang, Medical Director and Senior Consultant of the Lang Eye Centre. He
is the first local surgeon and one of only a few surgeons in the world
specially trained to do so.
Corneal blindness is the second most common treatable
cause of blindness in the world, with over 20 million cases recorded globally.
Cornea transplants had been the conventional but less effective option for
restoring vision before the improved surgery was introduced, with more than 80
per cent of paediatric cornea transplants failing within three years.
The KPro surgery “has a much lower rate of graft
rejection and is associated with better long-term success”, said Assoc Prof Ang
at a press conference yesterday.
He hopes to restore up to 30 per cent of Adelyn’s vision,
compared to zero before the surgery, and up to 70 per cent of Binh Minh’s, from
less than 5 per cent previously.
Said Adelyn: “Last time, when I climbed steps, all I saw
were countless things mounting up. I wouldn’t know how many steps there were.
Now I can count up to a maximum of five steps.
“Every time I see something (I couldn’t see before), I
get excited, like the colour of MRT seats,” she added.
The procedure is also less costly than cornea
transplants. Most patients undergo three or four transplants, each costing
S$15,000 to S$20,000, while the KPro surgery costs about S$30,000 and needs to
be performed only once.
Other advantages include much faster visual
rehabilitation and recovery, the elimination of the need for body-harming
immunosuppressants and medication and better quality of vision.
Fewer than eight KPro surgical operations have been
performed in Asia.

16 Feb Updates
Dear all caring friends,
This is a very special new year for Adelyn and me.
Adelyn had said a few things that had touched my heart.
1) Once, she stood in the middle of our living room and said "Mummy, so this is how the living room look like. This is the place I had been staying for 10 years, and finally I can see how it look like!"
2) A plate of simple instant noodles was brought infront of her. She said "Mummy, I can see how my favorite noodles' colors! Wow, my plate of noodles so colourful ( different veggie and carrot added).
3) Her two little sisters walking infront of her. She able to tell who is Angelyn & Amelyn based on their height.
4) She able to let go my hand and walked behind me in a arm length.
ALL the above are just a minor, simple and usual things that all of us able to do it. But for Adelyn, she had been through 10 years of blindness and finally able to see these SIMPLE AND USUAL things around her. She maybe just feel happy and surprise, but I am feeling very touch, happy and sad.
We really have to appreciate what we have. Things might be simple and natural to many of us, but remember to appreciate it cos we do not know when we will lose it. Believe in MIRACLES !
Warmest regards,
Mary Lim
